Since my last post in July, we have been very busy! We spent the better part of August in Newfoundland with Ian's family. During our time away we attended two weddings, two birthday parties, 2 day after wedding parties, and one anniversary party....all jammed into 12 days! The girls did really well on the long trip. (It took us 3 days to travel to and from NL. They also did very well on the long ferry trips! We were relieved about that!)
With September came the return to schedules. This fall we have been attending storytime at the library, playgroup with the momsclub in town, and playgroup through our church. The girls are really enjoying these set activities. Every week we also attend other events offered by the moms club such as dance class or gymnastics or brunch etc. Last week we went to a Polar Express party in our PJs and the kids drank hot cocoa and ate train cookies while the story was read to them. We have also taken a couple of field trips into Boston to the New England Aquarium and to the Museum of Science. We are very fortunate to have many friends near by to keep the girls entertained and to help me maintain some sanity!
Thanksgiving was a quiet affair for us this year as we celebrated with just the 4 of us. It was a nice relaxing day! We went to the Santa parade in a nearby town the Saturday after Thanksgiving to kick off the holiday season. Libby was very excited to see Santa! Sarah was mesmerized by all the bands and colors and noise! Unfortunately, that was also the day that Sarah slipped while climbing into her booster seat and broke two bones in her arm. She now has a cast on most of the way up her arm.....it is yellow at her insistence. The cast is not slowing her down one bit. She is still climbing up on EVERYTHING. I think she may be part monkey. :) She has adjusted to doing everything left handed very well and only has to wear the cast for 3 weeks since her little bones are growing so fast right now. So, with any luck she will get her cast off just in time for Christmas! Sarah is talking more and more now. Mostly she just says "mommy,mommy, mommy" but today she added "toast", "sister" and "stream" to her vocabulary, so it won't be long now before we have two chatter boxes in the house!
We were pretty fortunate this fall to have fairly mild temperatures, but winter is officially here now. The snow really looks beautiful clinging to the trees in our backyard (as you can see in one of the pics below). Libby enjoyed building a snowman and both girls like to sled down the little hill in our backyard. We have also been baking Christmas cookies and making various ornaments as craft projects throughout the season. We recently visited with Santa outside a local convenience store. Libby was thrilled to get to sit in his sleigh! Sarah was terrified of him and would not let go of me for any reason. lol. Libby is so very excited about Christmas this year! I can't wait to see her reaction on Christmas morning! She has been waking up frequently at 3:30ish am to recite her Christmas books and act out Christmas stories with her stuffed animals that share her crib! It is quite entertaining to listen to (I just wish it wasn't the middle of the night). I wish I had a tape recorder sometimes when she really gets going. It is so funny to hear what she comes out with! The other day we were driving past a very decorated house and she asked me "Mommy, What's the name of that scary frog??" It took me a minute to realize that she was referring to the giant blowup Grinch on the front lawn of the house. lol
We are looking forward to the chaos of the season and enjoying all the steps along the way. We count our blessings everyday and are thankful for all of our wonderful friends and family! Merry Christmas to you all! I'll post again after the new year!
