Things you thought you'd never have to say

So, the other night Libby asked for a napkin at dinner. We usually don't give her one since she shreds it and tries to eat the pieces, but on this night we decided to give her one. She very maturely dabbed at her mouth and then wiped her hands. We praised her for using the napkin correctly. She smiled at the praise....Then she leaned over in her booster seat and proceeded to wipe her bum (from the outside of her pants thankfully). I never thought I would have to say "Honey, we don't wipe our bums at the dinner table with a napkin." Then Ian and I cracked up.

Connections

So, Libby is really starting to come out with some funny stuff these days. Last night I was just leafing through a catalog that had come in the mail. One of the pages had Christmas stockings hung on the mantle. Libby came by and said "socks". I agreed that they were socks and pointed out that they were hung by the fireplace so that Santa could fill them up on Christmas eve. Libby's response was "Trick or Treat bag!!". I suppose she's on the right track.

Halloween

Libby enjoyed staying up past her bedtime AND getting to pick one piece of candy that she got from trick-or-treat. She chose a chocolate lollipop....yummy! We took the girls trick-or-treating to a few houses nearby.

Pumpkin Festival

We took the girls to the pumpkin festival this year. Isabella came with us too! There were nearly 23,000 carved pumpkins on display all over Main St. We would like to make this a tradition, but I think we are going to wait until the kids are a little older. I think they will have more fun in a few years. Libby was dressed as a pumpkin and Isabella was a princess. Sarah is a flower.

Sarah is now enjoying time in her exersaucer! I carved a jack-o-lantern with Libby. She was really only interested in eating the pumpkin meat from inside the "hat". Maybe next year she'll be more into it.

Sarah has also tried out the big swing set! Now both girls love to go out and play!

Apple Picking

Can you believe that Sarah is sucking on the same two fingers that Libby always sucks! We went apple picking on a gorgeous fall day. Libby even went up the ladder a few times to help with the picking!

Before heading home, we stopped at the pumpkin patch to have a look around. Some of those pumpkins were really big!

My parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in September. We combined Sarah's baptism celebration with a party for them. It was nice to have so many family members come to help us celebrate! The day after the party, Nanna and I took Libby and Sarah for a walk at the park and a visit to the farm next door. Libby loves to see the sheep and goats.

Sarah was christened at the end of September. It was a nice service followed by a fun afternoon spent visiting with family members that we don't get to see very often.

We took the girls on their first hike in the mountains. Libby did really well and walked most of the way by herself!

We had lots of visitors this month! Nanna and Dadda came down from Newfoundland to meet Sarah and reaquaint with Libby. Auntie Kris also came to spend a week back home. It was fun to visit with them all.

Enjoying the end of summer

Hello again! We have been busy around here trying to enjoy the last of the summer weather! I have uploaded quite a few pictures to share this time. I hope I don't overwhelm anyone with too many pictures. It took some convincing to get this first picture. Libby doesn't like to sit still very often...especially not next to Sarah. 8-) Libby and Dory are becoming good friends. Libby loves to have someone to play with but I think Dory's attraction to this friendship has more to do with the food that gets dropped on the floor these days. Nonetheless, they get along very well. Dory will be having surgery on her acl next week and should be ready for another game of chase in a few weeks.

Sarah is getting more alert and interactive these days. Thankfully that also means that she has awake time that she doesn't spend nursing. (Any advice on how to curb the red eye? It seems like almost every picture I take of Sarah she has red eye.)

Libby LOVES to "drive" Ian's tractor. There is a two year old across the street who has a battery operated John Deere tractor. He took Libby for a ride around his yard the other day. Too funny! She refused to drive it, but had no objection to riding along next to Casey.

After our walk, we sometimes pop in to visit the goats and sheep at the farm near the park.
Pooh Bear has become Libby's treasured baby. He gets diapers and diaper changes, she shares her milk and snacks with him too. We have been trying to discourage her sharing her meals with him as that is often very messy. So in order to keep Pooh safe and clean, we often times have to sit him at the table with his own plate of food...ugh. Fortunately, that passifies Libby enough to get her to eat her own meal.

This was her first day in her "new" pool. She had a grand time splashing and practicing her kicks for swimming.

Sarah likes to spend time in the baby gym.
We got a great deal on a sandbox from Craig's list...I highly recommend it if you are ever looking for kids stuff. (We got the swing set there too). Libby can see the swing set from her bedroom window. When I go in in the morning and open her shade, she looks out the window and says "set, set". We come downstairs and she climbs up on a chair to look out the window and point "set, set". So needless to say, we spend a lot of time out on the "set". It is great to have a place for her to play right in our own yard. The most challenging part is trying to get her back into the house for lunch or dinner. 8-)


That's it for this round! I can't believe how quickly they are growing up! Libby is already coming out with short sentences. The other day when Ian went in to get her out of her crib, she looked at him and said "Daddy Kiss Nose". So of course he did. Last week, I was reading an alphabet book with her and we got to the part "S Salamanders Singing" and Libby looked at me and said "S Sarah". Wow! I didn't teach her that! It's amazing the connections being made in that little head! And Sarah is just growing like a weed. She is weighing in at 12 pounds as of her 2 month appointment. It won't be long before she is chasing after Libby. Sarah is already pretty good at standing and holding her head up (of course we have to hold on to her...) Until next time...
