August 2008

I have a few moments to make a quick entry and update. We have been keeping busy around here with these two girls. I have been trying to start getting back into my old routines and have attempted to start walking the dog again (with both girls in tow). Trust me, we are a sight to see (and hear). Picture me walking while pushing a double stroller and holding Dory's leash. Dory pulls us along zigzagging from one side of the walk to the other. Libby is yelling "ohs" which means she wants more cheerios. Sarah is crying sometimes in the Bjorn sometimes in the stroller. I just try and dodge all the other walkers and joggers who are trying to share the trail with us. While making sure to pick up the shoes Libby kicks off and the sunhat that gets tossed all the while keeping Dory from wrapping her leash around the park benches or trees along the route. I wish I had a video of this to share with you because I'm sure it would be good for a belly chuckle.
We have also visited the park several times and have resumed attending playgroup at least once each week. I think this is helping Libby to not be as bored. She has not been having quite as many meltdowns as we were seeing for the past couple of weeks. Libby loves to play on the slide and swings in our yard and at the park. Today she is going to get to play in her sandbox as we finally got sand to put into the box! My philosophy these days is "I know they are going to grow up fast, so I want to enjoy every minute of being home...even the minutes when they are both crying and the house looks like a tornado has come through....someday I'll even miss the mess and the crying."

This picture of Sarah was taken August 20th. She is starting to not look so much like a newborn anymore. It is difficult to get Libby to stay still long enough to get a picture of the two girls together. So far this is my most successful attempt. Fortunately, Sarah was wearing really soft socks that Libby wanted to feel. 8-)

No more high chair! This is Libby's first day in her booster seat at the table. She is doing a pretty good job with this new set up. I can't believe how fast she is growing up!
Sarah is starting to tolerate time in the baby gym. She even does well on her tummy and can lift her head and turn it from side to side!
These jailbird pajamas are so cute! And, the dog she fell asleep with made it even cuter. (Of course when Libby woke up and saw Sarah sleeping with her dog....well, let's just say that the dog didn't stay with Sarah much longer.) This picture was taken on Sarah's one month birthday.
Okay. This movie I couldn't resist. Libby has been cracking Ian and I up as she reads this book by memory constantly! Allow me to translate: "Miss Lucy had a baby. His name was Tiny Tim. She put him in the bathtub to see if he could swim. He drank up all the water. He ate up all the soap. He tried to eat the bathtub, but it wouldn't go down his throat." The song goes on to say that Miss Lucy calls the lady with the alligator purse who recommends that Tiny Tim eat pizza to cure his ailment. Now listen to Libby's version. It took me a few days to figure out what she was going around saying over and over as she usually didn't have the book in front of her.8-)

Summer of Changes

This summer we have added a new member to our family. Sarah was born in the beginning of July. She is a very good baby and Libby and Dory adjusting well to this major change in our family structure. I am still getting the hang of managing the needs of two kids, but we are getting better everyday! Libby loves to play outside on her swing set or with her water table. Sarah's mainly interested in nursing, but is starting to enjoy short rides on the swing or time in the baby gym. Libby is amazing us each day with new words. Some of her pronunciations are just so cute (like T-ow-wow-wow which means towel.) Today Libby spoke to her Daddy over the phone for the first time. She said "Harry". (Harry is the name of the dog in the book that she is obsessed with today.) She has listened to people talk to her via the phone before, but has never spoken herself. I am going to try to use this blog to record the milestones and day to day goings on of our family.
